In the first week of our new Circus topic, Year one have discussed the history of the circus. The children used their critical thinking skills to look closely at pictures from the first circuses and understand what happened at them. The discussed the differences and similarities between those and modern circuses and they decided which they would prefer to go and see.
The children also practiced their social responsibility skills by discussing the question 'Should Wild Animals be used in Circus Performances?'.
The children had many reasons for and against and gave these in a whole class debate. They also looked at a poll of the secondary students and teachers and used this to help them decide also. Please see it below.
The children have also begun learning some circus skills in our Circus School Role Play corner. They have been having a lot of fun with the diabolo, juggling, spinning plates and hula-hooping.
